Handshake supports both integrated video through our partnership with Daily and externally hosted sessions.
Employers can host their virtual fair sessions using Handshake video or an external video provider. This article explains how to launch your sessions and outlines when and how students can join during the fair.
To prepare for the best possible experience, we recommend reviewing this resource ahead of the fair Preparing for the Day-of a Virtual Fair.
On the day of the fair
You can launch a session up to 60 minutes before the scheduled start time. Students can join up to 5 minutes before the session begins to test their connection, so you may notice students entering slightly early.
Launch your session on Handshake
1. From the left navigation bar, click Fairs. Locate your fair, then click the Schedule tab.
2. On the far right of the session name, click the blue Launch video button to start your session.
Note: The Launch video button is only available for sessions that have at least one student signed up.
3. On the launch screen, review and adjust your audio and video settings. To enter the session, click the Join button. Learn more about Hosting via Video on Handshake.
Hosting a session with an external video provider
If a session is hosted externally, Handshake displays the external link so students can access it at the scheduled time.
For externally hosted sessions:
Students are presented with a Join external video button on the session page
This button becomes available 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Clicking the Join external video button directs students to the external platform you provided.
Students are able to access the external link even if you are not logged into Handshake.
Tip: We recommend checking your external link before the fair begins to ensure a smooth experience.
