Event mediums are a required field on all Handshake events. They indicate how an event can be attended and determine how the event appears to students in search results and how the event is reported in Analytics.
For step-by-step instructions on creating an event, refer to Events: Creating an Event.
Event medium options
There are three event mediums available in Handshake:
- In-person only: Students can attend on site only. A Room (managed in School Settings) or a specific event location address can be added, which will be displayed on the student-facing event page.
- Virtual only: Students can attend via a virtual link only. A Join Video button is displayed on the student-facing event page and goes live 5 minutes before the event starts.
- Hybrid (in-person with a virtual link): Students can attend either on site or virtually. Both the physical location and a Join Video button are displayed on the student-facing event page. The Join Video button goes live 5 minutes before the event starts.
Note: When employers request on-campus events, they can also select from in-person, virtual, or hybrid mediums.
How mediums affect student search results
On the Events page, students can filter events by medium (Virtual or In-Person). Each medium maps to student filters as follows:
- In-person only: Appears for students filtering by In-Person
- Virtual only: Appears for students filtering by Virtual
- Hybrid: Appears for students filtering by either In-Person or Virtual
Hybrid event registration and waitlist considerations
Student registration for hybrid events works the same as for in-person or virtual only events. Virtual and in-person attendance are not tracked separately, so there is no automated way to report on how a student checked in.
- Waitlist: When a waitlist is enabled, the registration limit applies to all registrants combined, since virtual and in-person registrants are not tracked separately.
- Tip: To track how students plan to attend, add a custom attendee survey question asking whether they plan to attend in person or virtually.
Mediums in Analytics
Event mediums are available in Analytics via the Events report type, where you can report on in-person, virtual, and hybrid events.
