On Handshake, you can easily mark messages as unread, archive messages, and star conversations, and more. With these easy actions, you can save time and help keep your inbox organised.
Features available only to Premium partners are indicated by an asterisk (*). For more information, please check out this resource.
Manage your messages
By managing your messages individually, you can keep your inbox organised and access the information you need.
To begin, navigate to your inbox. For guidance, refer to How Do I Access My Messages?.
Inbox folders
Your inbox contains the following folders, including your main folder:

Sent: contains all messages you've sent, excluding campaign messages, if you are a Premium partner.
- Note: student replies to campaigns can be accessed within your inbox.
- Archive: contains messages that you've removed from your main folder.
Actions you can take
Apply and remove labels
To search for unread or starred messages in any folder, you can apply the following labels:

Unread
- Note: unread messages can also be identified in bold text.
- Starred
Apply the label Unread
To apply the label Unread, check the box to the left of each message you want to add the label to, or check the box in the top-left corner of the page to select all messages, then click the white button Mark as unread.
Tip: to revisit your inbox with specific labels applied, click the star icon on the right side of the address bar, then bookmark the page. The page URL will include the name of the labels applied, and can be accessed after logging in.
Apply the label Starred
To apply the label Starred, click the star icon to the left of the student's name for each message you want to star.

When a label(s) is applied, the button is highlighted in blue, and it will filter your inbox to show only messages that match the label(s).
Removing labels
To remove a label(s), simply click on the respective button. When the label is successfully removed, the button will be highlighted in white, and your inbox will once again display all messages.
Star a message
Star conversations in your inbox to help you quickly identify important conversations that need your attention.
1. Click the star icon to the left of each message you want to star, or check the grey box in the header to select all messages, then click the white button Star.
2. The message(s) will move immediately to your Starred folder and remain accessible from your main folder as well.
Unstar a message
1. Locate the message in either your main or Starred folder.
2. Click on the star icon. The message will be removed from your Starred folder and will remain in your main folder.
Mark a message as unread or read
Mark a message as unread or read so that you can easily return to them later when you have time to respond.
Mark a message(s) as unread
From main inbox
Check the box to the left of each message you want to mark as unread, or check the grey box in the header to select all messages, then click the white button Mark unread.
From within message
Click the white button Mark unread, located in the upper-right corner of the message.
The message(s) will be marked as unread and will remain in your main folder.
Mark a message(s) as read
Check the box to the left of each message you want to mark as read, or check the grey box in the header to select all messages, then click the white button Mark read.
Archive a message
From main inbox
1. Check the box to the left of each message you want to archive, or check the box, located to the left of Inbox to select all messages, then click the white button Archive.
From within message
1. Click the white button Archive, located in the upper-right corner of the message.
The message will move immediately to the Archived folder, where it will be stored for future reference, if needed.
Unarchive a message
1. Navigate to your Archive folder, then click on the relevant message you want to unarchive.
2. Click on the white button Unarchive, located in the upper-right corner of the message.
The message will move immediately to your main folder, where it will be stored indefinitely.
Note: messages cannot be deleted. They can only be archived.
*Filter by campaign
Premium partners can filter their inbox to view replies by individual or multiple campaigns sent.
Note: the campaign filter is only visible to users who can send campaign messages and have sent 1 or more campaigns.
To view student replies to a specific campaign sent, click the Campaign button, then select the campaign(s) from the dropdown. The campaign filter displays both completed and in-progress campaigns.
Once the campaign is selected, click the blue button Done in the lower-right corner of the dropdown.
If a campaign filter is applied with no replies, the message "Student replies to your messages and campaigns will show up here" displays.
Filter by institution
All employers can filter their inbox to show messages from students at selected institution(s), so they can prioritise and focus their time, making it easier to engage with students.
To view replies by students from a specific institution, click the Institution button, then select the institution(s) from the dropdown.
Note: institutions are sorted by alphabetical order.
Once the institution(s) is selected, click the blue button Done in the lower-right corner of the dropdown.
