The Greenhouse integration allows Enterprise customers to post Greenhouse Recruiting jobs in Handshake, receive Handshake applications in Greenhouse Recruiting, and synchronize applicant status updates between the platforms.
If your company is interested in this integration, contact your account manager to enable the Greenhouse integration.

Before you begin
To configure the integration, you must have access to the Greenhouse Integration page in your Handshake company settings.
Your Greenhouse Recruiting account must have the following permissions:
- Can manage ALL organization’s API Credentials
- Can manage and configure web hooks
- Manage custom fields, if your company uses Apply on Handshake with candidate education information
You must also be a Greenhouse Site Admin to authorize the integration using a service account.
If you do not have the required permissions, contact a Greenhouse Site Admin. For instructions on assigning developer permissions, refer to Developer permissions.
How do I integrate Greenhouse with Handshake?

Generate the Job Board API Key from Greenhouse and add it to Handshake
Follow the instructions in Create a job board API key for an integration.
When creating the API key, enter the following:
- API type: Job Board
- Description: Handshake Job Board API Key
Copy the generated API key. After collecting the remaining credentials, enter it in the Job Board API Key field on the Greenhouse Integration section of in your company settings in Handshake.
Create a job board token from Greenhouse and add it to Handshake
You must be a Greenhouse Site Admin to access the job board settings.
Follow the instructions in Find your job board URL.
Copy the word at the end of the job board URL. This value is your job board token.
After collecting the remaining credentials, enter it in the Job Board Token field on the Greenhouse Integration page in Handshake.
Generate a tracking link for the job board from Greenhouse and add it to Handshake
The job board must be live before you can create a tracking link.
Follow the instructions in Create a tracking link for a job board.
When configuring the tracking link, enter the following:
- Who gets credit: Select the appropriate user.
- Source: Select Handshake.
After creating the tracking link, copy the combination of letters and numbers following gh_src= in the generated URL.
After collecting the remaining credentials, enter it in the Handshake Source Token field on the Greenhouse Integration page in Handshake.
Connect the Handshake integration
To connect Handshake through Harvest v3, enter your Greenhouse credentials in Handshake, verify them, then authorize the connection in Greenhouse Recruiting.
Enter credentials in Handshake
- In Handshake, click your name in the upper-right corner, then select Company settings.
- Select Greenhouse Integration from the menu on the left.
- Complete the following fields using the corresponding values from Greenhouse Recruiting:
- Job Board API Key
- Job Board Token
- Handshake Source Token
- Click Verify.
- After the credentials are verified, locate the webhook secret key at the bottom of the page. You will use this key when configuring the Greenhouse webhooks.
Connect to Greenhouse
- Under Harvest v3, click Connect to Greenhouse.
- On the authorization page in Greenhouse Recruiting:
- Select the Authorize using a service account checkbox. For more information, refer to Connect to Harvest v3 partner integrations.
- Click Authorize.
- After you are redirected to the Greenhouse Integration settings page in Handshake, confirm that the Harvest v3 status displays Connected in green.
Set up webhooks in Greenhouse Recruiting
A webhook sends data to Handshake when a specified event occurs in Greenhouse Recruiting, such as when a candidate is hired. Create the following six webhooks to enable the integration’s required functionality.
Follow the instructions in Create a webhook for an integration, then use the values below to configure each webhook.
Before creating the webhooks, complete the Enter credentials in Handshake instructions and click Verify. The webhook secret key displays at the bottom of the Greenhouse Integration settings page in Handshake.
Use the following values for all six webhooks:

Endpoint URL:
https://ats.joinhandshake.com/webhooks/greenhouse/<handshake_employer_id> - Secret key: Enter the secret key displayed at the bottom of the Greenhouse Integration settings page in Handshake.
- Error recipient email: Leave blank.
Replace <handshake_employer_id> in the endpoint URL with your Handshake employer ID. To locate your employer ID, sign in to Handshake and copy the numerical value included in your employer page URL.

This webhook supports Apply on Handshake by notifying Handshake when a candidate submits an application.

Create each webhook separately. Greenhouse Recruiting will ping the endpoint when you submit the configuration. If the ping is accepted, the webhook will be created.
