Handshake connects you with thousands of employers, making it a powerful tool for your internship and job search. When you understand how Handshake’s search features work, you can find opportunities that fit your interests. This article outlines strategies and tips to help you refine your search and find relevant roles.
To start browsing, click Jobs in the left navigation menu to open the Jobs page. The jobs listed are influenced by your career interests and information on your Handshake profile.
If you signed up without affiliating with a school, your access to Handshake’s features is more limited. To connect to your school, click your account icon in the upper-right corner and select School Connections from the dropdown menu.
If your job preferences are out of date, a pop-up may prompt you to update them. You can also update your preferences any time from your profile by editing your job interests. To do this, refer to Update Your Career Interests.
Search Methods in Handshake
Use the jobs list on the left side of the page to review roles that interest you, or use the options below to narrow your search and surface the most relevant jobs:
- Search bar: Search using keywords, job titles, job IDs, or employer names—or describe what you’re looking for in natural language. As you type, Handshake’s type-ahead feature suggests options based on job roles, industries, and employers, ranked by the number of relevant postings available at your school.
- Handshake Collections: Use your school’s curated collections to find jobs grouped into categories chosen by your career services team. Not all collections appear directly on the Jobs page; for full details, refer to Career Center Collections At Your School.
- Location: Filter for jobs in a specific city, state, or ZIP code. The location filter defaults to a 50-mile radius—use the slider to decrease or increase the radius around your chosen location.
- Job type buttons: Quickly focus on Full-time job, Internship, or Part-time roles.
As you apply these filters, matching results update immediately in the jobs list on the left side of the page.
