Handshake’s division model allows multiple business units or teams to operate independently while using the same platform.
Divisions help you organize users, job postings, and career fair registrations, ensuring that teams can collaborate effectively without overlapping or interfering with one another's recruiting efforts.
Features available to Premium partners only are indicated by an asterisk (*). For more information, please check out this resource.
Teams can scale their recruiting efforts using divisions across different areas of the platform, as outlined below.
Jobs
Companies with multiple divisions can streamline job postings by assigning each job to the appropriate division.
- Learn how to add a division when posting a job by referring to How to Post a Job.
Teammates can also filter the Jobs page to view only jobs within their division, ensuring clarity and reducing overlap between teams

Career fairs
When registering for a career fair, you can register a specific division of your company instead of the entire organization.
On the registration form, navigate to the Basic Information section, then select the division from the Which division of the organization are you registering? dropdown.

*School lists
School lists allow you to keep teams and outreach efforts separate by targeting specific schools or geographic regions.
Each division can create customized lists to target candidates based on various criteria, such as:
- Named school lists: Teams can target candidates from specific schools that align with their divisions recruiting goals.
- Geographic regions: Divisions can recruit from schools in certain locations to meet local hiring needs.
- Minority Serving Institutions (HBCUs, HSIs, MSIs): Separate lists can be created to focus outreach on these institutions, ensuring targeted engagement with diverse candidate pools.
This approach helps divisions manage their outreach independently, avoiding overlap with other teams and improving the efficiency of recruiting efforts.

Outreach
To provide a seamless candidate experience, teams should use templates that specify both the division and recruiting team.
When candidates may be contacted by multiple teams, it’s essential to clearly state the roles being hired for and the division represented to ensure clear and professional communication.

*Using exclusions to avoid over-messaging candidates
To avoid unintentionally sending multiple messages to the same candidate, campaign exclusions can be applied to your messaging campaigns.
This is particularly helpful for large teams who do not have the opportunity to communicate with each other regularly.
