Campus Profiles are an integral part of the peer to peer learning and sharing experience. A Campus Profile is a student or alumni profile that is visible to their Handshake peers. You can only view other profiles if both parties have opted into Campus Profiles.
Note: while the student homepage layout has updated, you can still access the Student Community by navigating to your homepage, then typing "/students" at the end of URL, or just click on this link: https://app.joinhandshake.com/students
Handshake provides three profile privacy options for student accounts, and in order to have a Campus Profile, you must select the Community privacy setting. This privacy selection also allows you to participate in sessions with employers and other students at virtual fairs.
You can read more in depth about profile privacy in Profile Privacy Options in Handshake.

Why are Campus Profiles Important?
We want to enable peer to peer learning amongst all students and alumni! You might not know what kind of work experience or projects to include on your profile, or you may also be curious about potential paths for a given major.
Campus Profiles empower you to learn from other students and alumni across the Handshake network by reviewing profiles and messaging peers you'd like to learn more from, instead of struggling to fill it out alone or requiring a career counseling appointment.
How do Campus Profiles work?
All students and alumni that have a Campus Profile are displayed in a list view with a brief summary of their profile on the Explore Students page.
You can view this list at any time, regardless of your current privacy setting, however, actions beyond viewing this page require the Community option to be selected.
You will not be able to view full profiles or send messages unless you have Community selected.
Campus Profiles display the following fields:
- Profile Picture
- *Pronouns - only if they have chosen to share their pronouns with peers
- My Journey
- School Year and Grad Date
- Education
- Work & Volunteer Experience
- Organizations/Extracurriculars
- Courses
- Projects
- Skills
- A Message button
Certain fields cannot be viewed by other students - these include your GPA, Work Authorization, Email address, Ethnicity, Gender, Hometown or any Documents you've uploaded.
To access the Explore Students page
The student homepage has updated, so to access the Explore students page, you can either navigate to your homepage and type "/students" at the end of URL, or just click on this link: https://app.joinhandshake.com/students
On the Explore Students page, a list of students/alumni that have a Campus Profile in Handshake will appear. A brief summary of the profile is displayed, including their name, school, school year, major, two most recent employers and two most recent organizations.
Use the filters on the left of the page to identify interesting peers:
- Name search (keyword)
- Your school only - all participating students & alumni will be listed by default, so you can use this filter if you'd like to only view peers connected to your current school
- Alumni Only
- School Years
- Majors
- Previous Employers
- Student Organizations
If your profile privacy is currently set to Employers or Private
If your privacy setting is presently on Employers or Private, you can view the Explore Students page and use the search filters, however you will not be able to initiate a message to students or view their full profile.
If you click on their name, a pop-up will appear prompting you to update your privacy setting to Community.
- Click Join to update your selection OR
- Click Not Now to cancel and keep your current privacy selection.
- If you click Not Now, you will be taken back to the Explore Students page and unable to view the profile you clicked on.
If you choose to Join, a confirmation will appear in the lower-right corner, and you'll be taken to the profile you clicked on, which will include an option to send them a message.
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
When your profile privacy is set to Community
When your privacy is set to Community, you'll have the same view of the Explore Students page, with the addition of a message icon to the far right of each student or alumni name. Click on their name to view the full profile.
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
