If any student at your institution wants to participate in a virtual appointment, fair, or event hosted via integrated video on Handshake, and the addition of an ASL interpreter is needed, use the process below to request this service.
💡Note: you must determine your own ASL interpreter and instruct them to create a Handshake account. We recommend they register with a student account for the best experience!
With the transition to Daily as our new video provider, transcription is no longer supported at this time. Handshake intends to invest in this at some point, but currently there is no set timeline. We suggest using an external video platform if a transcriber is needed to type messages that should only be viewed by the student. However, Daily has added auto captions to their platform. Auto captions can assist students with viewing what is being said in real time. To learn more about auto captions, refer to the Key Accessibility Features section in the Virtual Accessibility in Handshake article.
Timeline
Requests should be submitted to Handshake Support 2 weeks minimum in advance of the virtual interaction.
🚀Tip: if the planned virtual interaction is less than 2 weeks away, contact your Relationship Manager instead to expedite the request.
