Use this resource to quickly and seamlessly renew or extend your job postings, and continue your search for top talent.
Application open and close dates enable you to efficiently manage your job postings, and provide candidates with the most current opportunities while also preventing them from applying to filled positions.
The application date functionality allows you to conveniently renew your job postings to widen your candidate pool, while retaining applicants who have already applied for the role.
Topics:
Historically, our job form allowed custom expiration dates (now called application close date) for each posting at a school. However, to optimize student engagement with recently posted jobs, we will update jobs that currently have an application close date greater than a year from the start date to close exactly a year after their start date.
You can only renew a job if it has been less than a year since the application start date.
This update ensures that your jobs remain up-to-date and receive optimal visibility from students on Handshake. By keeping your job postings current, you increase the likelihood of attracting qualified candidates and ultimately filling positions more efficiently.
While there is no action required on your part, you may review the examples below to understand how your job's current expiration date will be modified.
Example 1: your job has the same expiry dates across schools
If the expiration date for your job is currently the same for all the schools where the job is posted, and is within one year from the start date, there will be no change to the job expiry date.
You may keep the expiration date as is, expire the job sooner, or extend it up to a year from the start date.
Job w/multiple postings w/ same dates | Application start date | Expiry date | New expiry date | Editing functionality |
Posting 1 | Feb 2023 | October 2023 |
October 2023 (no change) |
You can expire sooner, can extend it up to a year from start date. |
Posting 2 | Feb 2023 | October 2023 |
October 2023 (no change) |
Same as above. |
Example 2: your job has varying expiry date across schools
If your job is posted to multiple schools and has varying expiration dates, it will be updated to expire on a single date, which will be set as August 31, 2024. This is to ensure that no job gets automatically expired. After our update, you may keep the expiration date as is or expire the job sooner.
If the job posting includes schools where the job has already expired, the job will remain expired at those schools.
Single job w/ multiple postings w/ different dates | Application start date | Expiry date | New expiry date | Impact |
Posting 1 | Jan 2018 | March 2030 | August 31, 2024 | Expiry gets shorter. |
Posting 2 | Jan 2018 |
January 2019 |
January 2019 (no change) |
Remains expired. |
Posting 3 | Jan 2018 | October 2023 | August 31, 2024 | Expiry extends to global date. |
Example 3: your job has different application close dates for different postings, but they are all in the future
If your job has a posting(s) with an application start date after August 2023, and has varying expiration dates, the job expiration date will be updated to a single date, which will be one year from the starting date. After our update, you may keep the expiration date as is or expire the job sooner.
Job w/ multiple postings w/ different dates | Application start date | Expiry date | New expiry date | Editing functionality |
Posting 1 | October 2023 | December 2024 | October 2024 | Can't extend expiry date. |
Posting 2 | October 2023 | June 2024 | October 2024 | Same as above. |
